I bought myself roses.
A week ago I walked into Kroger, gracefully made my way over to the flowers and carefully selected a bouquet of beautiful roses. Wanting to do something for myself, I was inspired by a YouTuber named Shahd Batal: she buys herself flowers.
When we think about love, we often think of our significant others, family members, or friends. But what about ourselves?
Today I want to talk about self-love. For me, this is something I’ve struggled with. I find it challenging to truly show myself love. To practice habits that are solely for the purpose of self-love and appreciation. I give away love to everyone around me, neglecting myself until I’m forced to pay attention. The time has come where I’ve had to do just that. In the past I’ve treated myself poorly and it’s caused me agony.
Buying myself flowers is only one way I’ve shown appreciation for myself. I’ve also been practicing self-care and putting my needs first. Somedays this looks like making sure I’ve showered and staying hydrated. Others, doing what makes me feel good such as, painting my nails or doing my makeup. I even have moments where I’ve realized that loving myself also presents itself as healing my wounds. In loving me I’m also healing the parts of me that are continuously suffering.
This week I encourage you to find ways to love on yourself. Here’s a few questions you can ask yourself:
- What is self-love to me?
- In what ways can I love on myself?
- What does showing up for myself look like?
- What’s one thing I can do right now to show myself appreciation?
Take care.
Love this post. A gentle reminder to be kind to yourself x
