Filling Up Your Cup

Journal Prompt

In what ways can you prioritize yourself?

For as long as I can remember I’ve struggled with putting myself first. When it came to what I wanted or needed, it was the last thing on my mind. I made others a priority and I usually suffered in the end. While I feel like being selfless can be a great thing, there comes a time where you have to put yourself first.

I’ve made sacrifices that have hurt me because I was focused on others wants and needs. Before we can care for others, we have to take care of ourselves. This is where self-care comes in. You can’t be everything to everyone if you’re not anything to yourself. Taking care of yourself doesn’t make you selfish. It’s a necessity. You deserve to give attention to yourself in the same capacity that you give it to others.

Schedule some time this week to prioritize yourself. Indulge in things that bring you joy without feeling guilty. Release the need to be a people-pleaser.

An affirmation to carry with you: I fill my cup before pouring into others.
